When the Munich band Sodom made youth centers unsafe with their thrash metal, no one could have imagined what an influential, still incredible work the group, renamed Sieges Even in 1987, would present in 1988: the debut “Life Cycle”. There were certainly sophisticated heavy bands in Germany, but the Mekong Delta, which were founded later (!), were the only ones to date who consciously used elements of progressive rock (King Crimson, Yes, etc.). Instead, insiders tried to understand the first LP by the Americans Watchtower, who were also a big influence for Dream Theater at the beginning. “Life Cycle” by Sieges Even is in no way inferior Allen the bands and albums mentioned and can even win bonus points in terms of production. The demo tape “Repression And Resistance” already impressively demonstrated this development.
Despite the incredibly complex material, Sieges Even manage to keep the metal and thrash content on this album so high that even inexperienced listeners picked it up when the LP was in stores in 1988 (Steamhammer/SPV). Even epic metal creeps into the mostly overlong tracks (“Straggler Of Atlantis”, “David”), the lyrical content of which is far away from the usual textual monotony of the time (death, devil, party). The album was produced in the Karo Studio by Kalle Trapp, who was particularly popular in rock and metal circles at the end of the eighties. “Life Cycle” has a special status in the Munich group's discography, because the thrash content fell with the successor and over the years they won over other target groups, including with the successor band Subsignal. You can also only hear Franz Herde's distinctive voice on the first two releases.
This genre classic was actually only available in the LP or CD version from 1988 and costs a few euros as a second hand product. Golden Core are proud to now release this groundbreaking album in a remastered form.
