This very uncommon cover(with a 3-page letter; w/some minor foxing on the envelope, and part of its bottom torn away upon opening) was sent from Otomari(present-day Korsakov), Karafuto(a.k.a. Sakhalin, currently under Russian control; then occupied by the Japanese), to Sapporo, Hokkaido, on December 31, 1930! New Year's greetings are an integral part of Japanese culture! The red, 3-Sen Japanese definitive is in very fine condition! The CDS from the Otomari P.O. is superb! Noted imperfections aside, this remains a nifty piece of Japanese postal history connected to Karafuto Prefecture!
