This attractive, blue, 1-Sen, Japanese postal stationery card(relatively clean; w/ some creases, and a small tear in its side)was sent by a pharmaceutical and cosmetics business as a New Year's card/advertisement on January 2, 1894! It was sent within Kishu Prefecture(present-day Wakayama Prefecture), and arrived the next day in Wakayama City. The depictions of the steam train and steam ship are fascinating, as both forms of transportation were still relatively new for Meiji-Era Japan! It seems that including them on the card was meant to emphasize the ability of the firm to complete orders by the newest, quickest means of transportation available! Noted imperfections aside, this remains a really neat piece of late 19th Century, Japanese postal history!
