About Florida 1969
Florida 1969 is a deeply intimate project. Minter took these photographs of her mum when she was a photography student, in her twenties. At the time, she didn't think much of them. However, when she showed the images to friends and teachers, they were all amazed with the result. The black and wait images show us a glamorous woman in her house -mostly in her bed. She puts on make up, she poses, elegantly looking at the camera. This is the woman they all saw - a starlet-like middle age woman living a glamorous life. But this is not what Minter saw; for her, this was her mother, a drug-addict and troubled person who nervously pulled her hair off. An isolated woman who barely left her house.
